Where to Find Apartments for Rent in the Buda Districts?

As everyone knows, Budapest is divided into 23 districts. Some of them are on the Pest side, while others are on the Buda side of the Danube. The ones on the Buda side, closest to the city center, are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 11th, and the 12th district.

These districts are considered best for foreigners searching for apartments on this side of the Danube. They are close to the city center, easily accessible via public transport, and all the international schools are nearby.

Here is a brief overview of the neighborhoods in these districts and what makes them particularly interesting.

Buda Districts to Rent Apartments

District I (Várnegyed)

This might be a relatively small area, but it is considered as the most beautiful one by the locals. The district is also known as “The Castle District” as its roots date back to the 13th century, and there are historic buildings on every corner. Várnegyed is home to some strikingly beautiful buildings such as the Royal Palace, Fisherman’s Bastion, and St. Mathias Church.

District II (Víziváros)

This is considered to be the wealthiest district in the city, especially the Rose Hill (Rózsadomb) neighborhood, which is packed with luxurious buildings, spectacular views on the city, green areas, and amazing infrastructure.

At the same time, that doesn’t mean you can’t find more affordable apartments. Typically, it is possible to find reasonably priced apartments around the Széll Kálmán tér area. The entire district is well covered by public transport.

District III (Óbuda)

Óbuda is by far the biggest and oldest district in the city of Budapest. Its origins take us back to the Roman time when it was known as Aquincum. The most famous landmark is Óbuda Island (Hajógyári-Sziget). This small island has a reputation as one of the most popular leisure spots in the city, as well as the place where the famous Sziget festival takes place.

District XI (Újbuda)

If we follow the statistics, then Újbuda is the most populated district. Furthermore, the district is home to thousands of international students. BME University has one of the biggest student dormitories in the country. Then there is ELTE’s university sports center, which is one of the most important landmarks in the Újbuda district.

District XII

This is another area filled with spectacular villas and lavish green areas, much similar to Víziváros in the second district. As a result, this district was given the nickname “The Hollywood Hills of Budapest.” The views are simply spectacular, just the same as pretty much everywhere else.

The local infrastructure is at the highest possible level, and the streets are always clean and well-maintained. The biggest downside is that the district is not well covered by public transport. But at the same time, most residents own cars and don’t mind that.

There aren’t many apartments for rent, and the available ones come with a premium monthly fee. Plus, almost all of them are luxurious apartments. So, unless you got deep pockets and a car to help you get around, this might not be the area where you want to settle. If you want to learn more about renting an apartment in Buda, then websites like JustBudapest.com can be of great help.
